The Bible Quarantine by Nick Hall - Week 2 Sample
The Bible Quarantine: Episode 8 – The Blame Game
SCRIPTURE: 1 Peter 4:7-19
Have you watched the news? It seems that everyone is pointing fingers. Our trust in one another has frayed, leaving many discouraged or disillusioned.
Pastor Laurel Bunker from Bethel University encourages us from Scripture to stop playing the blame game. When we’re stressed, we look for someone to blame. But God tells us to find strength in His Word. When you’re looking for someone to blame, here are three places you can look instead.
1. Inward. Start with yourself. Look inward and examine ways you might be contributing to your own stress in an already stressful time. What can you do to change your own attitude and invite God in?
2. Outward. What can you do to bless others during this time? Write a letter; buy a gift card; text your friends.
3. Upward. The Bible tells us to cast our cares on God because He cares for us. When you feel alone and isolated, turn upward to God.
When you’re looking for someone to blame, instead ground yourself in God’s Word by looking inward, outward, and upward.
