Drifting

DAY 4 OF 5

OUTREACH

We are naturally self-centered people. That’s not meant as an accusation, and I’m not saying we aren’t capable of selfless acts for the benefit of others. But, by default, without some effort on our part, we will naturally drift towards a laser-focus on ourselves. And when it comes to what Jesus calls us to, one of the hardest things to do when we’re in a self-centered headspace is to share Jesus with the people around us. It’s not that we don’t want to, it’s not that we don’t care about those that are far from God…it’s just something most of us don’t naturally drift towards. We’re much more comfortable focusing on whatever is going on in our lives and working on ways to improve that.

This is part of why what we’ve talked about for the last three days is so important. When we keep ourselves anchored to God, His Church, and His Word, it naturally begins to point our hearts towards the lost. God’s biggest priority in the world is bringing the lost back to himself…he cares about plenty of other things, for sure, but that’s his top concern. So, when we take steps to keep ourselves anchored to Him, he will inevitably transform us to care about the things he cares about (which is people). But again, it’s going to take some effort on our part to look for opportunities to share the love of Jesus with those around us, and to have the courage to seize those moments when they present themselves. So, who has God placed in your life who needs to know him? I bet if you ask God for a name, at least one will pop into your mind. What can you do today to begin sharing who Jesus is with that person?

About this Plan

Drifting

We all have a tendency to drift. Like boats on the water, if we aren’t anchored to something, we’ll slowly drift off course. When it comes to our relationships with God and with others, there’s a constant pull to go off-course, to wander into apathy and isolation, and to drift away until we find ourselves miles from where we wanted to be.
