Dad/Dennis had a stroke this AM day after Thanksgiving
Dennis’s wife and two adult kids are waiting on surgery to be done on Dennis. The son’s leg is going up and down a mile a minute. The daughter is laying back looking wiped out. Mom’s on the phone with insurance issues.
The daughter asks what I’m here for. “Hoping to bring some encouragement and hope to someone.”
She says, “That’s nice.”
“Would you like me to read a little Scripture with you?”
“No that’s OK, but we’d really appreciate some prayers.”
I’m certain she meant later, not here, but I said, “Sure!” Moved closer and prayed. She made the “prayer with her hand” sign and thanked me very much.
I stayed for about 20 minutes in case the doctor came out with the results. I left and told them I’d be praying for them while I walked home. They thanked me.
“Lord, shine your light into the hearts of this family. Save Dennis from any side effects. Make it a successful surgery. Open his eyes to your love and also of his wife and kids.”
“‘Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?’ And He said to him, ‘“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul and with all your mind.” This is the great and foremost commandment. The second is like it, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”’” Matthew 22:36–40
“If you wait until your motives are pure and unselfish before you do something, you will wait forever.” — Timothy Keller, The Reason for God: Belief in an Age of Skepticism
I am learning to love the people with whom God’s Spirit is prompting me to share his story. I never know what God might already be doing in their lives. The love of Jesus has stirred within me and completely overcome my fears and obstacles to sharing. Praise the Lord!
What an adventure! To God be the glory!
Please say a prayer for Dennis and his family. They are desperate.
