Graves Into Gardens: Restoring Hope in Dead PlacesSample
NO ONE BESIDE
Within my heart is a treasure that cannot be bought
When all else is faded it will not
The presence of my God
Most people have a few treasured possessions. Maybe you’d point to a family heirloom, a gift from a loved one, or a collection you’ve gathered over the years. It might have deep significance; it might just be something you like.
No matter what it is, chances are that you’ve set apart a special space for those things. Your grandma's old vase might have a spot on the shelf. Your unique collection might be displayed or carefully stored. Your favorite shirt probably doesn’t get thrown on the floor like the others.
And –– when it's time to clean out the closet or the cupboard –– those things aren't going anywhere. They hold extra significance.
Which begs the question: what has your heart been holding on to?
Maybe it’s the plan you made for your life.
Maybe it’s the baggage from an old relationship.
Maybe it’s the anxiety that comes with financial pressure.
Ultimately, we all have special shelves and storage bins in our hearts. We make space for relationships, work, and things we enjoy. We make space for stress, anxiety, unhealthy patterns, and negative behaviors.
But have we made a proper space for God’s presence in our lives?
He is the only thing that won’t fade, the only thing our heart needs.
If we don’t take care to treasure His presence and draw near to Him, we may end up reaching for what’s on the closest shelf –– and finding ourselves disappointed.
It might be time to do a deep-clean and take stock. Is what’s taking up the space inside of you what deserves that space?
Scripture
About this Plan
The enemy wants you to think that it’s over –– that your disappointments, failures, and struggles will bury you. But God’s not finished with you yet. He can turn disappointment into hope, failure into faith, and struggle into victory. He’s a God who turns graves into gardens –– and He wants to do it for you.
