Teach Me Your Ways 7-Day DevotionalSample
Scripture
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. (Matthew 5:9, ESV)
Thoughts
Jesus says that peacemakers are blessed, or have God’s favor, and they will be called God’s children. This statement is greater than we can fully absorb without some really focused pondering. But one wonderful result of receiving the peace that God gives through Jesus is that we can bring peace to others. We can tell them about the hope of the Gospel message and guide them toward reconciliation.
Look at this closely. We are peacemakers because the spirit of Jesus, the Prince of Peace, lives in us. One Bible commentary says that peacemakers “love peace and make peace.” Followers of Jesus do peacemaking because that is who we are.
Application
So before you try to do peacemaking, remember that you are a peacemaker. Why are you a peacemaker? Jesus is in you. Jesus is the ultimate peacemaker. He has made peace between you and God. The ultimate peacemaker is living in you. I want so badly for you to get this that I am going to say it again and again. People aren’t peacemakers because they do peacemaking. Believers in Jesus are peacemakers because that is who they are; that in turn determines what they do.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, today I am telling myself that I am a peacemaker because of Jesus. I am grateful that I am not acting or pretending. I am simply being who you created me to be: a container of your peace, someone who makes peace, through your son Jesus…. (Continue praying.)
