Growing in HopeSample
The Bond of Peace
The first three chapters in Ephesians emphasize our identity in Christ, who we are and what we have in Him. In Chapter 4, the Apostle Paul begins to give us guidance as to how we should live our lives as Christians. In verse 1, Paul uses the word “implore”. To implore means to cry out. Paul is crying out for us to “walk in a manner worthy of” our calling.
We have focused on what God has done for us, and now the focus is on what we are supposed to do in response to God.
As children of God Paul tells us we should treat others with:
· “humility” – not being prideful towards others
· “gentleness” – not treating others harsh or abrasively
· “patience” – not being easily irritated by others words or actions
· “showing tolerance for one another in love”- we should put others before ourselves
Paul urges us to live in peace and be unified with other children of God. The Holy Spirit who resides in all of us, as children of God, unites us together as one. Just as Jesus is one with the Father through the Spirit, so we are one family with God, as the Father, over us all.
Are you becoming more humble, more gentle, more patient, loving others more and more everyday? If not, ask God to help you. One reason you may not be is because you are still selfish. You must begin to give up some of your desires in exchange for God’s desires for you.
Are you living in unity with other followers of Jesus? One way to start on this journey is to get involved in a local church. There you will be able to study the Word of God, worship Him in song, and serve the community with other followers of Jesus.
Are you going to church?
If not, why?

Prayer:
Father, Thank You for choosing me and loving me. Help me to live my life in a way that brings You glory. Show me how to actively love your children and each person You place in my life. Teach me how to live in community and how to cultivate a spirit of unity among us. Also, Lord, forgive me of my sin and my selfishness; cleanse me of anything that keeps me from loving You and others fully. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
