God loves small things

God must love small things. We know this because He made so many small things. 

I have a friend who loves small things. She loves little ladybugs and small birds like willie wagtails (I like them too). When she was young she had a small pet called a gerbil. I enjoy the small things she points out to me when we’re together. Without those moments, I would have missed out on so many beautiful small things. It seems my friend has been given a heart to notice the small things in life and that makes her seek them out wherever she is, to take time to look at them closely and appreciate them. 

I sometimes wonder if God made small things so that we might be reminded that He has a heart to notice the small things, and He likes it when we notice and love the small ones of this world too. You don’t have to be a child to feel small and unnoticed. There are lots of reasons that people can feel small – when someone is bullied it can make them feel small no matter what size they are. Being excluded or treated without love can make anyone feel overlooked and unnoticed.

It’s great to remember that God seems to choose the people who feel small and overlooked to accomplish His big plans.

David was young and small and overlooked in his family. But God noticed him and took time to listen to David’s heart and his worship for God. God chose David and He entrusted this small overlooked shepherd boy to become a leader of the people of God.

It’s a good reminder that no matter how small you may feel, God loves you. He sees you and knows your heart. Don’t be surprised (as you keep turning your heart to believe in God) when He entrusts you with both the small and big plans He has for this world and the people He loves.

Prayer

Thank you, Lord for all the small things and for small beginnings

Help me notice all the small things you have made and enjoy them. 

Help me when I feel small to remember your love for me is big

Help me to notice other people who may be feeling small today and help me show them your big love
