40acts: Ready to Act

DAY 41 OF 47

Act 35: Reconnect

There are so many ways to be in contact these days: face-to-face or FaceTime, post, email and through social media. Yet it’s easy to lose touch with people you were once closer to, so take the chance to put that right. If you’re worried your approach won’t be welcomed, pray first to prepare the way, then make the first step, trusting God to span the gap.

Imagine it: halfway through the church service, joining the line for communion, and just as you make eye contact with the guy with the plate, you do a 180 and make a break for it. Everyone turns their eyes to the back of the room, the double doors swinging in your wake.

This sounds drastic, not to mention social madness, but it’s exactly what Jesus prescribes in Matthew 5:23–24 for a particular bunch of people.

Those with unresolved conflict and old grudges have to give total priority to making amends. Some of us might feel that we have no grudge that big in our lives. But we know that if the Lord cares deeply about friendships swinging towards a lack of health, he must really care about them swinging the other way, into life and hope.

If God sees relationships as so important that nothing on our schedule can go on until we’ve settled them, that changes how we see friends with nothing against us. We can bring new life to those relationships that are currently great for us.

What can you do today to stay in touch with those you know bring goodness into your life? We might have friends that are just stagnant, ticking over, or relationships that have gone stale. God cares about those friendships coming alive. He has hopes, dreams, and plans for how you can bring something unique for each other. If you’ve dropped out of contact, trust God to span the gap.

About this Plan

40acts: Ready to Act

40acts is a 47-day generosity challenge that seeks to re-frame Lent as a time of 'giving out' instead of giving up. This year our theme for 40acts is 'Ready to Act'. Join us as we embark on a 47-day journey of generosity, following the wise instruction given to us in the book of Proverbs. The plan is 47 days long as it includes 7 Sunday reflections.
