Book of Jeremiah

DAY 4 OF 18

WORSHIPPING IDOLS

The prophet Jeremiah reminded the people of Judah to stop worshiping idols. They were influenced by the foreign nations around them who worshiped idols, so they forgot their God. They had seen the wonderful and awesome acts of the God of Israel. They were led out of Egypt by God's own hand, they saw the inclusion of God in the wilderness, but they were distracted by idols which were worshiped by other nations.

The people of Judah awakened the jealousy of God, so God used Jeremiah to warn them. The people of Judah who had worshiped YHWH as a living God turned to worship other gods that were man-made. Yet it is only the true God who deserves our worship..

Maybe we think they are so stupid and ridiculous, worshiping their handmade statues. But sometimes we don’t realize that we also do the same thing. Idols are not necessarily in the form of statues; idols are anything that replaces God in our lives. In this era, idols may be no longer in the form of wood, gold, silver, etc. Indeed such things still exist, but in fact Christians unknowingly often commit idolatry anytime we replace God's position with something else. Our work, our parents, husbands, wives and children can become our idols, even ministry can be an idol when our focus is no longer on God.

Creation should worship its Creator and not the created.
