[1 John Series 5] Our Love and LifeSample
WWJD
Once in a while there comes our way a nagging question: “How do I follow Christianity?” The answer is as easy as an old cliché. We just ask ourselves, “What would Jesus do?” The Bible says that those who claim to follow Christ should walk as Jesus walked. But, how did He walk?
Jesus walked slowly, having time for relationships. How many of us bought our house thinking about the people we were going to invite over? But now, we are so busy, we just pull in, close the garage door, and hope that nobody comes over. We have a welcome mat, but we don’t mean it. The time has come for us to walk slowly and invite people over. Don’t you love it when you see somebody whose first priority is relationships\
Jesus walked toward the needy to help, not away from them. Let’s walk to the least and the lost. Let’s be a part of their lives. Let’s connect with people. Suburban America is not heaven on earth. There are needy people everywhere we go. Let’s be friendly, and extend a hand, and say, “We are so glad that you are here and so glad you are in our lives.”
Jesus walked securely in God’s love and His plan. If we begin to walk securely in God’s plan, there is going to grow a depth in our lives that will bring a sense of connection and completeness. This deep growth will hold us true and strong, moving in God’s direction.
In the northern oceans, sailors frequently observe icebergs traveling in one direction, even though the wind is strongly blowing in the other direction. How is that happening? We only see the tip of the iceberg. The current of the water, at its depths, is stronger than the wind at its surface.
When we follow the commands of God, when our “say” and “do” get closer and closer, when our love and life connect, when our faith and obedience are working in tandem to help us grow, we become people of depth that the current of God can take against the wind of this world. The Lord and the intimacy of God determine your direction.
