Discovering the Power of God’s Promises: A 6-Day Devotional Plan for the New Season

DAY 6 OF 6

DAY SIX – LEGACY

We all love our ‘Promised Land’ season but it’s good to remember that when the Israelites crossed over the Jordan River into the new land, the manna stopped.

They had seen supernatural provision for 40 years, but now that they were in their new season, they were expected to carry new responsibility. Therefore, the generation which grew up in the wilderness became the generation which took hold of the promise. Never let where you started decide where you finish.

Too often we decide our future based on our present, but in the kingdom we can decide our present based on our future. In other words, what the Bible says is our inheritance becomes what we believe and speak over our present.

God’s Word says that our future is good (Jer. 29:11), that God works all things together for our good (Rom. 8:28) and that God will make sure to carry out his good work in us until it’s completed (Phil. 1:6). If we know that regardless of what happens on earth our future is good, then we can be living today from a kingdom perspective.

There is no worry in heaven, therefore anxiety has no place in our lives here. There is no sickness in heaven, therefore we can declare sickness has no place in our bodies here. There is no fear in heaven, therefore we can declare fear cannot have the final word in our lives here.

Joshua had a Promised Land mindset, which carried him through the long wilderness years and did not allow the wilderness to get into him, allowing him to leave a legacy of hope for generations to come.

Our lives also leave legacies which carry on beyond the grave through our children, work, actions, words and prayers. Jesus spent three years investing into his disciples and then handed them the baton when he left, reassuring them he would send the Holy Spirit to help them create a kingdom culture in their land; a culture still growing in influence today.

We have a part to play in Jesus’ prayer of ‘your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven’ . . . are you playing your part?

Reflect: What preparations are you intentionally making for your next season? Does your current mindset support your future responsibilities? Will the habits you are forming today increase productivity tomorrow? What legacy do you want to leave?
