Love God Greatly - Galatians

DAY 10 OF 40

Paul rebuked Peter for demonstrating hypocrisy when he withdrew from and refused to eat and fellowship with Gentile Christians while the Jewish Christians were around. This caused many Jewish Christians to follow Peter’s example and do the same. Peter was more concerned about what people would think about him rather than what people would think about God.

Christians are to remain consistent in following the doctrine of grace through faith in Jesus Christ which is what unites us. When believers change in fear of what people think about our faith, we make people more important than God. When believers act hypocritically towards each other, unbelievers may think God is hypocritical and can’t be trusted. But, when we remain united and aligned with the Holy Spirit, behaving steadily and consistently before people, we affirm to all people, believers and unbelievers, that God is absolutely consistent and steadfast.

Do you have any inconsistencies in your Christian walk? Does your private attitude and behavior mirror your public walk with God, remaining consistent regardless of who you are around? In what circumstance could you be allowing denominational division or differences in church culture blind you to the unity we are called to have in Christ?

Father God, You are our unchanging, unwavering, totally reliable Rock on which we can stand without any doubt, fear, or hesitation. Lord, help me to remain consistent in my behavior and walk with You. Lord, keep me from misrepresenting You to anyone in my sphere of influence. Lord, please allow no other motive to exist in my heart except to please You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
