Jesus’ Water Works! Devotions From Time of GraceSample
Jesus’ water works
There are two things I love about the “water” that Jesus offers us in the gospel of John. “Jesus answered, ‘Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life’” (John 4:13,14).
The first thing I love is that Jesus’ water isn’t "work". Notice the words, “the water I give.” Jesus’ isn’t charging absurd prices like the fancy bottled water taken from fresh mountain springs. What Jesus is offering you—his unconditional love to quench your thirsty soul—is free. It’s a gift. It’s grace. If you feel too unworthy or too spiritually poor to afford it, Jesus has good news—his love is free for the taking and enjoying.
The second thing I love is that Jesus’ water works. Unlike a bottle of water that can only satisfy us for so long, Jesus’ cross is a spring of water that never runs dry. It wells up and offers us life with God every second of every day. That means you can, even in this very moment, look to Jesus and find grace, mercy, hope, and help, without fear that you will use up his precious love.
There are so many things to adore about Jesus, but here are two near the top: Jesus’ water (his soul-satisfying promise) is not "work", and it works!
