The Great I AM
When we find out who God is, we start finding out who we are. If we never understand the depth of God’s mercy and love, we will stay focused on our own failures. If we do not understand His greatness, we will continue to look at our own limitations. If we do not understand God’s riches, we will look at our own poverty. If we do not understand the power of hope, we will always be in despair. Get to know the great I AM.
Moses asks God in the burning bush, “Who am I, that you would send me to Pharaoh to deliver my people?" He did not feel capable or confident to go, but he obeyed. God responds to Moses, “I will be with you, and you will know that I am the one who sent you.” This is exactly what Moses needed, and what you need to know today. When we understand that God is actually with us through the journey, we build the confidence to fulfill the purpose for which we were created. We begin to believe in ourselves, not because of who we are naturally, but because of Who is living in us. You were created with a purpose. You are here on an assignment. If anyone has ever told you otherwise, stop believing the lies of the enemy. Because you are a child of God, you have an identity in Christ. You are not alone. God is with you and His spirit is living in you.
God visits Jeremiah and tells Him to go speak for Him to the nations. Jeremiah does not see what God sees. He gives God several excuses: he’s too young and not a good speaker. Many of us are like Jeremiah and do not see ourselves the way God sees us. We are focused on words others have said about us. But God says you are capable because He is with you. You are a mighty warrior because He is strong. You are called because He has called you and wants to use you for His kingdom. When we identify with God and know who Jesus is, we get a clear picture of who we are. Until you know that, you will have a misperception of your identity.
Today is a good day to start knowing God. The more you know Him, the more you will know your identity. Choose to believe what He says about you. When you lose yourself in Jesus, you will find yourself. He values you more than the world and knows you better than you know yourself. If you want to answer that great question, “Who am I?” you will find the answer in the great I AM.
