THE WAY

DAY 7 OF 14

The Long Walk To Freedom

There’s an important little conjunction in those verses that point to an important process:  “so that.”

“Let my people go, so that they may worship me...”

Our freedom is for a purpose!

There are two key words for freedom in the Old Testament. One meaning free from captivity, oppression, etc and one meaning free to/for something or someone. This implies that walking in true freedom comes in two phases. God didn’t just want Israel free from Egypt, he wanted them free for himself—free to worship.

He didn’t want them stuck avoiding the past but able to fully embrace the future. This is a process. We don’t just walk out of prison, we need to learn also to walk in freedom and this walk might take some time—40 years even!

How great that God wants us to walk with him as we are and along the way we become more and more free.

“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free.” (Galatians 5:1)

What things would you like God to free you from? And what is he freeing you for?

About this Plan

THE WAY

The early disciples of Jesus were called followers of The Way before they were ever known as Christians. This tells us that Christianity is meant to be a journey, a daily walk, a way to walk rather than a religious institution or set of behaviours to try to be perfect. This study looks at Israel’s journey from slavery to freedom in parallel to our story and our journey with God.
