I WILL STAND STRONG 30 DAY CHALLENGE

DAY 12 OF 30

The Golden Rule of Life

Don’t you hate it when people don’t practice what they preach?

It’s easy to judge others when they do something wrong. But what about you? How evident and consistent is the Golden Rule in your life? If you’re wondering what the Golden Rule is, allow me (Jason Jimenez) to refresh your memory.

Jesus said in Matthew 7:12, “Do unto others what you would want them to do to you.”

Luke’s account offers a bit more insight into what it looks like living out the Golden Rule: “If you love those who love you, what benefit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. And if you do good to those who do good to you, what benefit is that to you? For even sinners do the same. And if you lend to those from whom you expect to receive, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, to get back the same amount. But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return, and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, for he is kind to the ungrateful and the evil. Be merciful, even as your Father is merciful (6:32–36).”

The Golden Rule isn’t a suggestion. And it’s certainly not meant to be exercised from convenience. Instead, what Luke is expressing from the standpoint of the Golden Rule is total obedience. You see, to love others, you must love God. And to love God, you must love others (Matthew 22:37-38).

The point here is practice what you preach. Don’t expect others to love you, forgive you, give to you—and you not reciprocate. Set the example by using God’s love as a standard to live by.

We can sometimes expect people to make the first “move of kindness.” But the truth is, living out the Golden Rule is not about what people have done for us lately. It’s about what we, as Christians, can do to serve them right now no matter!

This is true love in action!

So, if you want to live out the Golden Rule, then answer the call to love, serve and forgive others as you seek to be loved and forgiven!
