Read To Me Daily Semester 3Sample
1CHRONICLES 13-14:
In our history reading yesterday, we heard of mighty men who joined David in war, and the roll call of people who joined him politically to become king. And today we hear more about important events under David’s leadership.
PROVERBS 18b:
Today’s highlighted proverb is chapter 18 verse 22:
Pro. 18:22 GNT Find a wife and you find a good thing;
it shows that the Lord is good to you.
1THESSALONIANS 3:
In our reading yesterday, Paul reminded the Thessalonians of the way he, Silas, and Timothy lived among them. They definitely loved the believers there like family. And at the end of the chapter Paul compares them to a crown (or we might say, the crowning achievement of their ministry). Paul fondly anticipates the day when he will bring before Lord at Christ’s second coming. Paul’s statement that “God’s anger has come down on” the Jews, shows that events were moving toward the Roman destruction of Jerusalem in 70AD.
Let’s pray.
Lord Jesus, nearly every sentence in 1st Thessalonians 2 shows Paul’s fervent love for the believers in Thessalonica. What an amazing work you must have done in Paul, who once beat believers and threw them in jail. What a bond of love is forged when people experience persecution together. Lord, give us Christian leaders who are like how Paul was to the Thessalonians. Give them courage to tell your Good News in spite of opposition. Lead them in Paul’s integrity, who did not preach with impure motives, didn’t try to use trickery or flattery to gain followers, and was not motivated by greed. He didn’t change his message to please people, but only wanted God’s approval. Give our leaders the same kind of love for their flock so that they will encourage, comfort, and urge us to live a life that pleases God. Give them such love that they treat us like their children, and roll up their sleeves to do hard work to help those in need. And help each one of us— their followers, that when our leaders share God’s Word, we will actively listen to it. So Lord Jesus, please work in us like you did among the Thessalonians.
