Read To Me Daily Semester 3Sample
JEREMIAH 9-10:
Being a prophet is not exactly an easy job. In chapter 7, verse 27, God told Jeremiah,
7:27 NLT “Tell them all this, but do not expect them to listen. Shout out your warnings, but do not expect them to respond.”
We’ll find that God told the same thing to more than one prophet around this same time.
PSALM 142:
When you are discouraged, turn to Psalm 142. It’s a good one to pray!
JOHN 20:
Today we read John chapter 20. There are so many fulfillments of Scripture that happen in the crucifixion chapters of the four Gospels that the authors didn’t take the time to highlight each one of them. The Jewish readers would have picked up on them without the need for an explanation. In chapter 19, verse 36, John highlighted one fulfillment, saying, “This was done to make the scripture come true: ‘Not one of his bones will be broken.’” I hope you remember what that was about! See Ps. 34:20, Ex. 12:46, Num. 9:12. If you don’t know, I hope this teaser will encourage you to take a look at those verses, because this is a golden gem. And Jesus’ death did not mean that he stopped fulfilling Scriptures!
Let’s pray.
Lord Jesus, how little we can know of your suffering for us! Let us not too quickly turn the page. Isaiah says about You, “Because of our sins He was wounded, beaten because of the evil we did. We are healed by the punishment He suffered, made whole by the blows He received.” So dear Lord, help us not to turn too quickly away from this vision of the cruelty You suffered. The Scripture says, “People will gaze at him whom they pierced.” Lord, help us to not just glance at your pierced side, but to gaze at it until this sight is seared in our minds and hearts. This price was paid for us. How can we do anything else than to give our whole lives and hearts to You?
