Read To Me Daily Semester 3Sample
2KINGS 19-20:
The writer of 1 & 2 Kings was very brief about the sins of the people of Israel (in both kingdoms) until what we heard yesterday. He seems to have saved the moral of the story for chapter 17. And then we have the wonderful contrast with Hezekiah in chapter 18. Then the Assyrian king mocked the God of Israel at the end of chapter 18. We hear God's answer today.
PSALM 132:
It may be that Solomon wrote this Psalm of Ascent, Psalm 132, as part of it was quoted by him at the dedication of the temple.
JOHN 15a:
Yesterday in John 14, we heard Jesus’ promise that He would send our Advocate/Comforter/Helper, the Holy Spirit. The Spirit is the One who literally ‘comes along beside’ and will lead us into all truth and be with us forever. And I think it is really due to Him that we can have “a peace that the world cannot give or understand.”
Let’s pray.
Lord Jesus, how precious it is that You and the Father are one, and that You are also joined as one with us. Thank you for giving us peace— a peace that the world cannot give. We will rest in your peace and not be afraid. So we truly can say with the psalmist,
Lord, I have given up my pride
And turned away from my arrogance.
I am not concerned with great matters
Or with subjects too difficult for me.
Instead, I am content and at peace.
My heart is quiet within me like a little child lying quietly in its mother’s arms.
Lord, we trust in You! Help us to show how much we love you by obeying your commands. We want to live in your love and the Father’s love. Thank You that You have sent the Holy Spirit. And to You, oh Holy Spirit, we pray that nothing will hinder your work in us.
