God Is ... Through MatthewSample
God is . . . Shepherd
" ‘But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for out of you will come a ruler who will shepherd my people Israel.’ ” Matthew 2:6 NIV
This verse lets you know that Jesus is not only your shepherd and protector but also your leader. Just like a shepherd who both guards and leads his flock, day and night, Jesus desires to lead you.
But how do you let God lead you step by step each day? The most important thing is to recognize who He is and to be willing to follow Him wherever He leads. In John 10:27 NIV, Jesus says, “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.”
You may recognize His voice, but are you always listening? Sometimes life is too busy for you to hear when God is gently whispering instructions to you. What keeps you from hearing the Lord? What has He spoken to you that you have not yet obeyed? Return to the last thing that He told you to do. Complete the task and wait for His next instructions.
Prayer:
God, thank You for Your willingness to lead me on my journey through life. Forgive me for not taking the time to be still and listen for Your voice. I am so sorry that instead of asking You to guide my life step by step, I have only ask You to approve my own plans from time to time. Father, because You are worthy, I commit today to listen carefully and obey You immediately. Thank You for being a merciful Father. Today is going to be a good day as I follow Your leading! Amen in Your mighty name.
