DAY 27 OF 86

DEUTERONOMY 29-30:
Yesterday in Deuteronomy, Moses turned up the fear index to the red level. And the scary thing about the threats he used to motivate the people to obedience is that they later all came true— as we will see in books like Judges and 2 Kings.

PSALM 65:
Today’s Psalm is number 65, and it is a hymn of joy and mighty praise.

ACTS 17:
Yesterday in Acts 16, we heard of how Paul and Silas were beaten and put in jail. This was as a result of freeing a slave girl from demonic bondage. Their overnight in jail led to the jailer and his family becoming followers of Christ, and probably many who were prisoners as well. But the next day, as requested, Paul and Silas left town.

Let's pray before opening God’s Word.
Heavenly Father, all those blessings that You promised in Deuteronomy happened to the people of Israel, but afterward, all those curses for disobedience happened to them as well. Lord, You have taken great pains to communicate to the human race, and yet so many people don't believe in You. Oh yes, they say they believe in God. They may even say they're born again Christians. But they act as if You don't exist they shut You out of their minds and refuse to even think about You. They have banished the thought that this life will come to an end. Oh Lord, I pray that You would have mercy on my relatives that I'm thinking of, who do not know You and do not want to think of You. Have mercy on them and help them to come to their senses. Because if You really exist, then it seems to me that people should want to get to know You and should ask the question, “What does God require of me?” That's the question that the Philippian jailer asked, “What must I do to be saved?” And the answer was, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved.” That evening he and his family rejoiced because finally they believed in God— not just Jesus, but also in God. Lord, right now my listener and I are thinking of people who need You desperately, but don't acknowledge You. We pray, Lord, that You would open their eyes. And we pray, Lord, that You would help us in speaking to them. May they find the joy that the Philippian jailer and his family found that night.
