Day Four: Be Rooted
Scripture: Isaiah 40:28-31, Colossians 2:7
Today we are going to talk about our relationship with Christ and how everything we dream of becoming or doing in life stems from being rooted in Him. Being rooted in God is something between you and God—hidden from the world and unseen. God has special works laid out for you: “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do” (Eph. 2:10).
We can root ourselves in Him every single day by acknowledging Him as Lord of our lives and simply desiring to center our lives on Him. We stay rooted in Him by prioritizing our relationship with Him, reading His Word, and aiming to know Him and do life with Him. Staying rooted in Him isn’t a formula or a program or a particular reading plan. As we allow His Spirit to nudge us when we find ourselves more rooted in the world than in Him, we learn to return to Him as our strong foundation. It’s this dance of grace through which we deepen our roots in Him.
In the Isaiah passage, we see a reliance God designed us with in order to both go out and do the things He’s called us to do and then return to Him to find the strength we need to go out again: “He gives strength to the faint and strengthens the powerless...but those who trust in the Lord will renew their strength” (Isaiah 40:29, 31). Again, we are rooted in Him, strengthened by this position, and enabled to go out and serve. This repetition keeps us fueled up and close to our Maker’s heart.
God wants to use you in this world. He wants to bring His light to your sphere of influence. He wants you to be in the world loving others and shining bright for Him. Don’t back away from that. Know that in Him you will find the strength to keep going out into the world, to keep showing up, and to keep dancing this life for His glory. When you feel your heart burning out, when you feel fatigue and weariness setting in, find your strength again in Him. Through this dependence, He becomes the foundation of your life. And the dance becomes a joy because you always know where to find your strength.
How do you know when you need to retreat to the Lord and find your strength in Him?
