Sex: Design. Distortion. Redemption.Sample

Sex: Design. Distortion. Redemption.

DAY 1 OF 12

Prayer:

Take a moment before starting to ask the Lord to lead you in this time & reveal more about Himself through these passages. Ask Him to guide your thoughts as you consider the truth design of sex and romance, the biblical instructions designed by God.

"Follow the Instructions"

I am less than great at putting things together.  A few years ago I ordered some furniture from IKEA.  Just looking at the IKEA catalogue is an amazing journey to create the living room of your dreams.  The only problem is that every piece of furniture comes disassembled and buried in separate boxes.  I wish the room I looked at in the picture would just materialize in my living room! But it doesn’t.

I started working on it by simply looking at the finished product.  I thought, “If I can just make these pieces look like that finished play-set it will be fine.”   Wrong.  I spent more time disassembling and reassembling because I thought I could just “figure it out.”  The building was much more complicated than I thought.  Simply put, I needed to follow the instructions.

I think many of us make the same mistake when it comes to decisions in our lives, and specifically our sexuality.  We see sex and romance in movies and desire to create that reality in our own lives. We think, “I can figure it out for me.”  The problem is that we make a mess because we don’t know how our sexuality was designed to work.

God designed sex to be most fulfilling and most free from distortion in the context of marriage.  If we remove it from that design we run into many problems.  People get hurt, relationships get broken, and lots of time is spent trying to disassemble and reassemble our lives.  If we start with God’s design for sex, we stop ourselves from making a major mess.

Questions to Ask Yourself:

  1. Have you ever thought that God had a design for how sexuality should work?  Does that change how you view sexuality?
  2. If God has a design for sexuality, should we align with it or still create our own path?

What’s Next:

  1. Do some study in the following verses to see God’s goal for sexuality in relationships.
  2. What changes in your sexual life should you make to align with God’s design?
Day 2

About this Plan

Sex: Design. Distortion. Redemption.

God designed people as physical, emotional, and spiritual beings. In this reading plan, we want to better understand human sexuality from God’s Design, to the Distortions we encounter, and the Redemption we can experience.
