Love God Greatly - Made for Community

DAY 29 OF 54

The beginnings of the local church started in the homes of the first Christians. Devoted, united and giving are words that describe these early converts. They met together, ate together and were devoted to one another. Studying scripture and praying together was part of their way of life and we are told God added to their number daily. What a great reminder of how we, as Christians, are to live our lives. I love the example they have set for us. Living out our faith isn’t complicated; it’s just choosing to live intentionally. Here in Acts, Luke reminds us that we are to live our lives in community doing normal everyday activities like “breaking bread”. God made us with the need to eat, why not slow down and invite some friends over in the process. Church isn’t just about a building you go to on Sunday mornings, “Church” really is the community of believers you are investing your life into, encouraging them, studying scripture with them, praying with them and being devoted to them. Who are some friends God has placed in your life that you can reach out to? How about inviting them over for a meal this week? The food doesn’t have to be fancy; your house doesn’t have to be immaculate…take the first steps by praying first and reaching out second. Then wait to see how God will move.
Sometimes it’s good to go back to the basics.
