Treasures From God: Devotions From Time of GraceNäide

I’m afraid for my children
A young couple says, “This world is unsafe. Is it a good idea to have children?” I’m sure part of you resonates with that statement. Our streets are dangerous indeed. Adult temptations come at children at earlier and earlier ages, usually far before they are ready to deal with them. It seems that no place is safe from armed, angry, and violent people--schools, theaters, malls, even army bases.
Sad to say, things have always been that way. The world the Israelites lived in could be just as violent as ours, and God still invited couples to bring forth new people. He promises to limit the damage Satan and his demons can do, promises to give us no more than we can handle, and promises to give us strength to stand up on evil days.
David was a shepherd, courtier, fugitive, king, and warrior. Violence was never far from his life. He found great comfort in simply surrendering his life and those he led to the guidance and care of the Lord: “I trust in you, O LORD; I say, ‘You are my God.’ My times are in your hands” (Psalm 31:14,15).
Life without risk does not exist. But people committed to God can live joyfully and without fear, knowing that their lives are serving God’s great saving purpose and that their place in heaven is safe and secure.
