As A Man Thinks

I can remember vividly the season when I started understanding how my thoughts created my reality. It literally changed everything about how I viewed my life and what I thought was possible. No longer was I simply waiting for something to happen or trying to gain favor with God through obedience alone. I realized I had the opportunity to become an active participant with God in my own development. Yes, it was still His grace that was empowering me and His Spirit that was leading me, but I had a role to play in God’s plan for my life. This was a game changer for me. Even though this may might seem like a new concept to you, realize it’s completely Biblical and grounded in how God designed us to cooperate with Him as we fulfill our unique design.

I think of it like gravity. God designed the world and established a law called gravity. It simply says under normal conditions what goes up, must come down regardless of who you are, what you have, or even what you feel. The same is true with this law of the heart that we find in Proverbs 23:7. Your heart was designed as an incredible incubator to bring forth fruit in the form of your life based on whatever seeds you put inside. You can plant seeds of doubt, fear, and anxiety or you can plant seeds of faith, love, hope, and God’s Word. Either way your heart will produce fruit. 

See, it’s easy to complain about your “lot in life”, but when you realize that what you’re experiencing is a direct result of the seeds you’ve sown in your life it causes you to have, as we say in the south, a “come to Jesus meeting.” Reality hits home as you start understanding that if you want to see change happen in your life you have a role to play. This doesn’t remove God from the process but rather enables you to understand how God’s design for change works in your life. Once you get hold of this and start to apply this new understanding life becomes a huge adventure with the Holy Spirit as your guide.

As you take time to meditate on these scriptures ask the Lord to show you what beliefs and thoughts you’ve been sowing into your heart and how they’ve manifested in your life. Examine the fruit of your life in light of the seeds that you’ve been sowing and invite the Holy Spirit to help you replace negative thoughts and beliefs with those that align with His Word and plan for your life.
