DAY 3 OF 5

Quiet Time

People in whose lives God does great things spend enough time alone with Him in their prayer closet. One of our fathers of the faith, Andrew Murray, often wrote about his quiet time: “As you enter the inner chamber, let your first work be to thank God for the unspeakable love which invited you to come to Him and to converse freely with Him. Thank the Lord for the assurance you have that He will bless you. Praise and thank the Triune God for His holy presence.”

For all those people who are tired and discouraged, a prayer closet is essential. It’s a place where you can be alone with God, and be silent before Him. It is where you will always experience God lifting the heavy burdens from your shoulders and providing you with His power.

In your prayer closet, you can tell Him about every single thing that troubles you, and ask for His guidance on everything and everyone that bothers you. You can tell Him how much you love Him, and feel how He enfolds you in His love.

All the anxiety that stifles you when you think of what lies ahead will disappear like mist before the noonday sun. Having a prayer closet and spending time alone with God makes a tremendous difference—not just to your current frame of mind, but to your entire life. Don’t wait any longer to set up a prayer closet for yourself.

Prayer:

Lord, I cannot imagine my life without a prayer closet where I can be with You every day. Thank You for our times together, for the inspiration and strength I receive from You, and for the glorious reality of Your presence that I experience there. I praise You for the personal way in which You communicate with me during my quiet times. Amen.

About this Plan

God Is On Your Side By Nina Smit

This 5-day reading plan will remind readers of God’s enduring love and kindness, encouraging them to count their blessings and live each day to the full. Each of the five days features a devotion on a particular topic (such as focusing on the positive and making gratitude a way of life) and ends with a prayer and a Scripture verse. The content for this reading plan is based on Nina Smit’s “God Is on Your Side”.
