DAY SIX: God’s Standards Matter
God's standards matter. The Bible repeatedly tells us where the Lord stands on various issues — as well as on the state of the human condition, with Solomon detailing in Proverbs 6 the "six things the Lord hates."
These activities and character flaws might sometimes arise in our own lives, so knowing and understanding each of them can be deeply beneficial to each of us, especially as we embark on the ongoing quest to be better and stronger people.
Here's what Solomon writes in Proverbs 6:16-19 (NIV):
"There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, a false witness who pours out lies and a person who stirs up conflict in the community."
So, there you have it: arrogance, lies, murder, evil, false witness and troublemaking. It's some pretty heavy stuff.
Outside of murder, most of us have probably been guilty of one or more of these things at one point or another (or perhaps we're currently battling one of more of these characteristics in our own existence).
It's clear God hates these things, so it's surely wise to try and contain them if and when they emerge; being better means periodically checking ourselves.
So, where are you falling short? It's worth asking.
In addition to mapping out these "detestable" elements, Solomon also spoke about the importance of working hard, imploring readers to look to ants for good examples of due diligence. Proverbs 6:6-8 (NIV) reads:
"Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise! It has no commander, no overseer or ruler, yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest."
In a world in which it's sometimes easier to take the simple route, the importance of hard work is worth remembering and integrating into own lives. We're called to honor God in all we do — and that includes work.

About this Plan
What is knowledge? That's a question that is becoming increasingly difficult for our modern world to answer. That said, the Bible is pretty clear about where knowledge comes from, what it is, and where we can obtain it. This 10-day study from Billy Hallowell offers some much-needed guidance for living in the modern era.
