9 Keys to Walking in ChristSample
Key 8 - Being Committed To Prayer.
Communication is an essential part of any relationship. If you never talk to others and they don’t talk to you, you’ll never get to know one another.
In your walk with Jesus, prayer is the way by which you can talk to Him as often as you want. Prayer is such an incredible gift and tool God has given you! It’s your opportunity to talk to Him, to intercede for others, cry out to Him for help and much more. The One Who breathed life in you, wants to hear from you. It’s a gift that you need to be committed to and it not only benefits you, but also benefits others.
Jesus perfectly modeled prayer for His disciples as they asked Him to teach them how to pray. He also modeled it as He often escaped to a secluded place to have His time of prayer with God The Father as well. Jesus is the best example for you to follow as He truly made prayer a priority and in turn, He instructs you to be committed to prayer, as well.
There are many elements of prayer God’s Word models for you including: confession, petition, intercession, thanksgiving, praise, and more.
Confession is your opportunity to tell God about how you sinned and to agree with Him about your sin. Petition is your opportunity to ask God to provide for your needs while Intercession is your opportunity to ask God to provide for the needs of others. Thanksgiving is your opportunity to thank God for everything He has already done and continues to do in, through, and for you and Praise is a sweet time for you to speak words of complete adoration to Him. When you pray, you may consider incorporating these elements as time allows as you approach Him in prayer.
In the good times and the difficult times, prayer should be your first response and not an afterthought. Furthermore, Jesus said that His house will be a house of prayer, and guess what? You're His house—the house that The Holy Spirit resides in! So, be a walking house of prayer!
Being committed to prayer is another key to walking in Christ and it’s vital that you make prayer a priority each day.
Questions to get started with: What does my prayer life look like? Is my prayer life proportionate or is it mostly self-centered? Do I intercede for others in prayer? Do I praise, give thanks and adoration to God? What do the scriptures I just read teach me about being committed to prayer and making it a priority? What do I need to change to be more committed to prayer and make prayer more of a priority?
