Dinner With Jesus

DAY 7 OF 7

Serve Comfort Food

What’s your favorite comfort food? Just thinking about it brings warmth, fond memories, smiles—and a huge craving!

When the two travelers from Emmaus returned to tell the disciples about their encounter with Jesus (Luke 24:13–32), Jesus Himself suddenly appeared! It’s no wonder they were all very afraid—they thought they’d seen a ghost! But Jesus reassured them with a simple gesture; He sat down and ate with them. Then Jesus “opened their minds to understand the Scripture” (Luke 24:45, NLT).

By eating, Jesus wasn’t just proving that He wasn’t a ghost. He was putting their minds at ease by doing something natural and relational. Like the ultimate comfort food, Jesus was ministering to His disciples’ weary hearts. Meals can still work that way, bringing people together and melting away a stressful work day or an aching heart. His presence was the ultimate comfort for everything they had experienced.

  1. What’s a go-to dish that you like to share with others?
  2. Is there someone you can comfort and uplift through a meal?
  3. If you don’t cook, what are some other ways you can comfort others?

What’s the verse that comforts you? Learn more about your favorite Scripture by checking out the verse right “next door” to it. Read “The Verse Next Door” at wycliffe.org/f east.

About this Plan

Dinner With Jesus

Jesus often used meals to engage with people and teach important lessons. And he continues to call us to his table to dine, feasting on who he is and learning more about him through the Word. His example provides an opportunity to invite friends, outcasts, and even enemies to know God’s story of love and salvation—whether you’re a host or a guest.
