Rise: Stepping Up To God's Call

DAY 5 OF 14

God Speaks in Many Ways

Have you ever felt like God doesn’t talk to you? Perhaps you feel like God should be speaking to you in dramatic fashion with a low, booming voice. Maybe you feel like you are failing at hearing God communicate.

God is always communicating to His people, but we don’t always know what to look for. Communication falls into three main categories: written communication, verbal communication and nonverbal communication.

Thought:

If you have ever played games like Pictionary and Charades you have learned there are several ways to communicate without words. It’s our job to pay attention and figure out what the communicator is saying. What you need to know is that God is always speaking to His children.

God’s primary way of communicating is through the Bible as It gives us clear boundaries and principles on how we are to live our lives. Occasionally the Lord will speak audibly in a loud voice, a gentle whisper or like you were having a conversation with a friend. Many times God chooses to speak to us in other ways such as prayer, dreams, Holy Spirit promptings, visions, signs, creation, opportunities, pain and through other people.

Challenge:

  1. PAY ATTENTION, HE’S SPEAKING! Spend some time reading your Bible and write down what God is speaking to your heart.
  2. OPEN YOUR EYES! Look for the nonverbal ways God is speaking to you everyday.
  3. PRAY! Right now, pray, “God please help me hear, see, feel and experience your ways of communicating to me more clearly.
