God's Grace

DAY 6 OF 11

Say this sentence out loud: Everyone sins, but God’s grace wins.

Some people think if they do mostly good things, then they are good. They think they’re OK with God.

But that’s not true. You see, ever since Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden of Eden, we all are born with what’s called a “sin nature.” That means that no matter how hard we try to do the right thing, we all still sin. Every single one of us. Every single sin—even the teeny, tiniest lie—deserves the same punishment. That punishment is separation from God forever.

The bad news? Once we sin, there is nothing we can do to ever earn our way back to being God’s friend.

Thankfully, there’s good news, too! Even though we can’t earn back our friendship with God, we still have hope. Why? Because God gives us grace. If we ask God to forgive our sins, believe that Jesus took the punishment for our sins, and choose to follow Him, then our relationship is fixed. We don’t get what we really deserve—we get God’s good grace, instead! That’s why we can say, “Everyone sins, but God’s grace wins!”

Talk It Over:

What do you think about Adam and Eve’s decision to disobey God?

Talk about a time when you sinned. How did it make you feel?

What do you think it’s like to get God’s grace instead of punishment?
