Lent Devotional: RestoreSample
Restore: Restoring the balance
What do you think of when you hear the word “balance”? Do you think about the trapeze artist at the circus, an amazing and graceful ballet dancer, or how much money you have in the bank?
When we look around at the world today, it seems as though a lot is out of balance. There is great inequality, and we are increasingly seeing the effects of the world’s climate being out of balance, impacting the poorest communities the hardest.
The passage in Colossians 1:15-20 explores the idea that God is at work restoring all things, not just us as people, but the land, the plants, the animals and the sea, all of his creation.
God calls us, his church, to partner with him in restoring the balance. We have been entrusted to take care of his creation. How we live, the choices we make and what we consume matters.
Father God,
We thank you that you long to restore all things, and that part of your renewing of the world includes restoring your creation and all things that have life and breath. Help us to play our part and partner with you to restore the balance of your wonderful creation, so that all people and all things may be able to thrive and flourish. Amen.
