The Persons of the Trinity are distinguished from one another in Scripture according to their role in the divine speech
We can learn more about the mystery of God’s three-in-oneness by reading the Scriptures. Some have described the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit as being One in essence, but not in function. God’s Word can tell us about the different roles of the different members of the Trinity. The Father exerts his lordship through his Word (e.g., the first 2 verses), the Son is the Word spoken (e.g., the second 2 verses), and the Spirit is the powerful breath that drives the Word along to accomplish its purpose (e.g., the third 2 verses).

This must be done with attention, first, to the words; second, to the sense; and, third, to the divine authority of the Scripture, and the obligation it lays on the conscience for obedience.”
