God's Attributes Reflected in UsMuestra
God is eternal
“Of old You laid the foundation of the earth,
and the heavens are the work of Your hands.
They will perish, but You will remain;
they will all wear out like a garment.
You will change them like a robe, and they will pass away,
but You are the same, and Your years have no end.” (Psalm 102:25-27)
The Lord God is eternal. That means He has always been there and will always be there. He has no beginning and no end. Psalm 90:2 sings about this, “Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever You had formed the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting You are God.”
Not only is God everlasting, being eternal also means that He does not change. We read this in today’ verse: even when heaven and earth will perish, God remains the same. And because God remains the same, and He is infinitely wise, His insights and plans do not change either. “The counsel of the Lord stands forever, the plans of His heart to all generations.” (Psalm 33:11) That gives us humans solid ground! It would be terrible to be subject to the whims of a god who keeps changing, or who wants something different all the time. The Lord is not like that. We can have rock-solid confidence that He will endure, that His plans will be carried out, and that He will keep His promises. So it is said in Hebrews 13. “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” We may cling to that when life as a believer is hard on us.
The word/concept “eternal” is not easy to understand. What exactly do you imagine it to mean? Can you find synonyms?
Acerca de este Plan
God created humans “in His image.” This means that in a sense we resemble our Creator. But to what extent is this still true? And to what extent has sin broken this image of God? This reading plan examines various attributes of God and how they are reflected in us.
