Obedience
Character Goal: Obedience – Seeking to grow in obedience to God by increasing our knowledge of Him and studying His Word; being equipped to walk by faith and not by sight.
Biblical Character: Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary, and other women
Scripture Readings: Matthew 28:1-10; Luke 24:9-12
Discussion Questions:
- Who went to the tomb? When did they go?
- Why did they go to the tomb? Who did they want to see?
- What does this tell you about the relationship these women had with Jesus?
- What happened while they were at the tomb?
- What did the angel remind them about what happened to Jesus? Did they see this happen?
- Did they believe what the angel had spoken? How do you know?
- What did the angel instruct them to do?
- They came to the tomb looking for Jesus but He was not there. Where did the angel say they would see Him?
- At this point they had a choice to walk by faith or by sight. What did they choose even though it seemed impossible and crazy?
- What are some instructions your coach has given you that are difficult to follow? When you follow them, what are the benefits? Knowing the benefits, will you be more likely to follow their instructions in the future? Why?
- What happened as they went out obeying the word of God spoken by the angel? Who met them?
- What does this tell you about faith and obedience to God? Read Isaiah 64:4-5a
- What was Jesus’ first command after He met them? How did they respond?
- What does this tell you about what Jesus desires for us to do in His presence? Read Psalm 16:11.
- What does this mean to you?
- What is His second command to the women? How do they respond? What excuses could they have come up with to not obey Him?
- How did the other disciples respond? What does this tell you about how people may view or respond to us when we obey Jesus?
- What does this story teach you about Jesus and His relationship to those who obey Him?
- What blessings do they receive?
- What is one thing I learned from this story that I can apply to my life before the next lesson?
