Redemption Story

I enjoy noticing how the Old Testament and New Testament fit together. There is so much that unites the entirety of God’s Word. Regularly, I discover or discern another link in a particular golden chain, such as the Bible’s through-line of redemption.

A tale of many amazing things that culminate in Christ, the Bible is a redemption story. Understandably, we gravitate to Jesus fulfilling God’s eternal plan to redeem – buy back; pay the bill for – the repentant, from the consequences of their sins (see Mark 10:35– 45).

Cast your eyes on the middle of the Old Testament book of Lamentations, though. Chapter 3, verses 55 to 60 report that the Lord God redeems.

You might not have read Lamentations for a while, but you would know that most of it does what its title suggests. So much crying out to God over the state and situation of the nation of Israel, which has been rightly judged by God for sins committed.

Lamentations is a poem of anguish about God’s people bringing upon themselves an invading army and exile. Yet it also contains seeds of the redemption that God steadily has extended alongside His promise to uphold His holy, righteous ways. Lamentations is another Bible portion that informs our grasp upon the ultimate redemption that everyone truly needs.

Real Hope: Redemption Story

“God loves us and will search for us when we are relationally lost from Him. When we return to God’s love, all heaven rejoices. We are found, forgiven and loved. That is redemption.” (The Redemption Story – Kath Henry). If you feel far from God, meditate on these devotions and let them open your heart to God’s saving grace and His heart for the lost.
