Preparing for HarvestMuestra
Day 5: Celebrate
The Festival of Shelters
Leviticus 23: 33-34 says, "and the Lord said to Moses, 'Give the following instructions to the people of Israel. Begin celebrating the Festival of Shelters on the fifteenth day of the appointed month—five days after the Day of Atonement. This festival to the Lord will last for seven days.'”
A few hundred years ago, some believers thought it was vain to celebrate holidays and things of this life, so they did away with all celebrations. What a shame that was since God tells us to celebrate. Although we are not a part of this world, we are in this world, and God gave us the blessing of being alive. He created joy, excitement, and satisfaction. When people see us celebrating our lives and all that God has done in harvest, that can help point others towards Him, not towards us. When you choose to take in the joy of the harvest, you are experiencing the joys of being a Christ-follower. The happiness of this world won’t last, but the joys of seeing godly fruit from your life are eternal.
The Festival of Shelters was a time for the whole family to get together and celebrate all that the Lord had done in their lives. It was also a time for renewed commitment to God. Celebration leads to renewed faith, which is a concept that needs to be passed down generationally. God’s goodness is worth setting time aside for to commemorate! It is not vain to tell others what God has done for you because He gets the credit. When harvest time comes, set aside time to honor the harvest with friends and family to encourage one another!
