Lighting Up Life
After creating light on day one of creation to illuminate the universe, God created three specific lights (the sun, moon, and stars) on day four and is still lighting up the darkness with his spoken word today.
He has never stopped bringing light to darkness! John 3:19 says that the real condemnation of humanity is that Jesus's arrival brought light into the world, but people loved darkness instead. When Matthew's gospel tells about Jesus’s arrival in Galilee, it says, "The people who sat in darkness have seen a great light, and upon those who sat in the region and shadow of death light has dawned" (Matthew 4:16). Jesus is the light; however, Jesus also told his followers, "You are the light of the world" (Matthew 5:14).
Day and night, light is at your fingertips. When you pray for and speak God's truth to others in our generation, you bring light into the spiritual darkness that is otherwise void of God's grace. Furthermore, John wrote in his first letter that we choose whether or not to walk in the light. In other words, we can keep certain actions or parts of our life in the dark secret place where others can't see, or we can bring our struggles and sin into the light by opening up to a trusted friend and asking for prayer. Then, what was once an area of darkness can be transformed into an area of victory, like the sun transforms the night sky.
Question: Are there any areas of your life that you are keeping "in the dark" (a secret) where the enemy can get a foothold?
Prayer: Lord, forgive me for doubting your goodness, love, and power or believing I can keep any part of my life a secret from you. Show me the way out of darkness and bring your light-giving correction that will transform me to be more like you so that I can be a pure channel of your light to my community.
