HOW GREAT IS OUR GOD
What goes through your mind when you think of “how great is our God”?
Do you think of an experience you have had, your salvation, a miracle you have encountered? Do you think of the universe’s enormity, ponder on a Bible verse, or think of a scripture that has deep meaning to you? Whatever the answer, we will all have an experience that resonates with us to the truth of the greatness of God.
Why? Because our God is great. He is limitless. He is, in fact, infinitely more than we can fathom with our limited human comprehension. Yet we can’t help ourselves; our minds, by default, will try to bring His greatness down to our level of understanding. We bring His unlimited supply to our limited understanding. Therefore, we must be intentionally and acutely aware of this fact - He is so much more. He is the beginning and the end. He is the Alpha and the Omega. He is the creator and grand architect of this world and all that was, all that is, and all to come. He is all of this, yet He is also our Lord, Saviour, creator, father, friend, and comforter.
Psalm 104 reminds us of His greatness. It tells us of His splendor and majesty, how He set the earth on its foundations, He has to look at the earth, and it trembles. Read Psalm 104 and take some time to meditate on its words. It was Psalm 104 that inspired the well-known song “How Great is Our God.” Ask the Holy Spirit in which areas you might have put a lid on His greatness.
Thank Him for His greatness and love for you, and ask the Holy Spirit to help you remove any limits you might have placed on Him. Lift your eyes and shift your perspective today to His greatness. Like N. T. Wright says, “It’s not great faith you need; it is faith in a great God.”
Today where do you need to remind yourself of the wonder, might, and power of our God?
