How to Survive the Storms of LifeMuestra
Jesus Christ Has Silenced the Storm of God’s Wrath
“Your wrath has swept over me; your dreadful assaults destroy me. They surround me like a flood all day long.” (Psalm 88:16-17)
When Jesus came on earth, this was not just to show God’s power and to tell people about His Kingdom. He also came to bear the punishment of human sin. He took our guilt upon Himself and therefore, the storm of God’s holy wrath broke loose over His head. God’s burning anger surrounded Him like a flood. He drowned in it.
When the day of His crucifixion was drawing near, Jesus cried out: “My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from Me” (Matthew 26:39). But this wasn’t possible. God’s wrath could only be satisfied if Jesus would bear His suffering to the end. And He was ready to do so. He was forsaken by God the Father, so that His children would never be forsaken by God. When He suffered and died, the earth trembled and the sun lost its light. Creation was trembling for God’s wrath. But Jesus’ cry “It is finished” silenced the storm — forever. Whoever believes in Him is safe and secure.
