Reading the Bible in Historical Sequence Part 10Muestra
AD 26 John the Baptist begins ministering at the River Jordan. In AD 27 he baptizes Jesus. The Holy Spirit leads Jesus into the desert where Satan tempts Him. Luke provides Jesus’ lineage from Joseph’s father-in-law back to the first man, Adam.
Note: Ussher considered that John began his ministry on the Day of Atonement AD 26, the start of the thirtieth year of Jubilee (Leviticus 25:9) and took over three years to ‘make ready a people prepared for the Lord’ (Luke 1:16–17; Acts 13:24–25). At His baptism Jesus would have been ‘about 30’ (Luke 3:23). He began His teaching in winter AD 30 after three years under the leading and power of the Holy Spirit.
