Jesus the Great High Priest
I wanted to end on these verses because it’s always stuck with me. The idea that a sinner like me could “come boldly unto the throne of grace that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in a time of need.” That picture blows my mind. The God who created the world has a throne where you're invited to come boldly to.
In Hebrews 4:14-16 we see our Great High Priest who can sympathize with our weaknesses and create a way for us to approach the throne.
If you’ve ever watched a period piece, you’ll soon realize they have so many rules, customs, and traditions that you wonder how they even get through any event. Approaching or just being in the same room with someone with a title, let alone the King, involves some of the following:
- Letters of visitation
- Permission
- Curtsy or bow
- Attire
- Greeting
- Body language
- Etiquette
- The position of your seat to the King
- Speech
- Announcing your arrival
- Family position/bloodline related to the King
You and I probably have none of what it takes to visit a king. However, you and I have everything we need to visit THE KING.
- Letters of visitation (Revelation 21:27)
- Permission (John 14:6)
- Curtsy or bow (Romans 14:11)
- Attire (Ephesians 6: 10-18)
- Greeting (Matthew 6: 9-13)
- Body language (Hebrews 4:16)
- Etiquette (Exodus 3:5)
- The position of your seat to the King (Luke 14: 7-11)
- Speech (Matthew 3:3)
- Announcing your arrival (2 Corinthians 5: 1-6)
- Family position/bloodline related to the King (Romans 11:11-24)
The last thing I’ll leave you with is the thought that not only is there a way for us to approach the throne, but God is also waiting for us to do so. He longs to spend time with us, provide wisdom, love, and forgiveness.
