Overcoming Tragedy: A 4-Day Plan for Finding Hope Amid Life's ChallengesMuestra
DAY 3: Taking Refuge
Before his accident, Tommy was a lean 155-pound man who exercised regularly, tried to eat right, and was constantly on the go.
“Not only that,” he says, “but I had ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder) before they even knew what it was.”
For a guy with his personality, the idea of being paralyzed and unable to take care of things for himself and his family would have made him depressed, anxious, and scared.
However, Tommy knew God’s grace was with him and still is.
God doesn’t cause bad things to happen, but God’s there to pick you up when bad things do happen. Tommy has this same sense of peace to this very day.
“God’s grace was with me and still is,” Tommy says. “I just have a sense of peace about me that I’m going to be OK and my fate is in God’s hands.”
When our life is shaken in unimaginable ways, we can rest assured that God will always be our refuge and strength.
The Lord had His hands on Tommy from the moment he hit the ground, just like He has His hands on each of us and always will. With God on our side, we can do all things through his strength!
TIP(s) FROM TOMMY
Find comfort in the fact that God doesn’t cause bad things to happen, but God is there to pick us up when bad things do happen.
PRAYER
Dear God, help me take refuge in Your strength and not my own. Help me choose You first in times of trouble, and not rely or lean on my own understanding. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
