An Interview With GodMuestra
While many are familiar with the pillar of cloud by day and the fire by night where God met Moses to communicate His will for the people, we must not miss the importance of verse 11 being included in this account. Even though sin had entered the Garden and Adam and Eve’s choice to disobey God had ended the close fellowship with Him, here we see the heavenly Father once again seeking intimate community with His creation. He conversed with Moses “face to face, as one speaks to a friend.” He was not far away at a distance, uninvolved, but up close and personal by choice—available, present, and engaged.
Watch today’s clip, where Paul Asher meets God face to face for the first time to begin his interviews.
As the Creator, God could have chosen to speak straight into our minds, overriding our wills and taking control much like Yoda as a Jedi Master or J.A.R.V.I.S, running Iron Man’s suit. Being comprised of spirit, God could have also tapped directly into and overridden man’s soul as well. He could have made humans like robots on any level, created only to do His bidding with no choices, thoughts, or emotions allowed. But He did none of this. As a loving Father, He brought everything to the level where we had fallen without compromising His holiness and gave us the pathway to experience the highest form of love and freedom through His Son.
While Scripture certainly has accounts of people hearing God’s actual voice, we cannot assume every instance in the Bible was audible and not that different from our own experience of hearing Him through our own spirits connected to the Holy Spirit. Regardless of messages being directly to one person or given publicly to an entire nation, God has spoken to His people individually and corporately throughout all of history.
The choice today to be in a relationship with God, to engage with Him like Moses “as one speaks to a friend” has been made fully possible through Christ’s sacrifice on the cross. Jesus is indeed our Way to come to the Father.
Why do you suppose knowing the certainty of hearing God’s voice is one of the biggest questions most Christians have? How do you know when God is speaking to you?
