These are the Lord’s opening words as he reveals himself to Moses from within the burning bush. It says something about your father’s faith when the true and living God can reveal himself to you simply by referring to his relation to him.

The privilege of having godly parents cannot be valued too highly. Their names may not appear in the headlines, but the influence of their faith will profoundly affect their children, leading them to know the Lord. It was so with Moses. We know nothing about his father Amram except that he was “a man of the house of Levi” (Ex. 2:1). But Moses’ parents were godly souls, and it was by faith that they hid their child for three months after he was born, not fearing the edict of the king (Heb. 11:23). Moses came to know God in a more intimate way than his father had done, but it was his father’s God whom he came to know.

Here is a searching question for any father to ask: Could God introduce himself to my child with the words, “I am the God of your father?”
