Daily EncouragementSample

In a dark and decadent day “God’s solid foundation stands firm” (2 Tim. 2:19). It was true in Isaiah’s day, when the priests and prophets, themselves part of the drinking crowd, staggering and reeling and “befuddled with wine,” mocked his message, saying, “Who is he trying to teach? To whom is he explaining his message? To children weaned from their milk, to those just taken from the breast?” (Isa. 28:9). Yet the foundation of the Lord was there, tested, precious and sure.
There can be no question as to the identity of the foundation. “For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ” (1 Cor. 3:11). Peter speaks of him as “the living Stone,“ and goes on to quote Isaiah’s words (1 Pet. 2:4-8). Paul speaks of “Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone” on whom the whole building of the Church depends (Eph. 2:19-22).
Everything hinges upon our attitude to this tested stone, this sure foundation. The more so when we face so-called leaders and teachers in the Church whose lives are lax and who mock the simplicity of the gospel. We shall not be moved, nor shall we be dismayed as we trust in him who is precious to us.
