Bible Survey: Part ThreeSample
Most of the Proverbs were written by Solomon. 1 Kings 4:32 tells us that Solomon spoke 3000 proverbs and, according to Proverbs 25:1, Hezekiah compiled them into the book of Proverbs. Proverbs teach wise behavior but are not promises from God. In other words, although it is a good idea to take the advice from Proverbs, the outcomes stated are not guaranteed.
The chapter today says that wisdom begins with fearing God. It also advises us to pursue wisdom by listening to those who are looking out for our best interests.
It’s funny how our best interests seem to look pretty boring, while walking on the wild side looks exciting. Wisdom cries out for us to consider God’s view on our behavior and to consider the consequences of our choices.
