Day 1: Palm Sunday

As we start our journey toward Easter, let’s take a moment to reflect on the powerful scene of Jesus entering Jerusalem on Palm Sunday. In Mark 11:1-11, we can almost feel the excitement and hope as the crowd gathers to welcome their long-awaited King. Picture the vibrant atmosphere—people spreading their cloaks and waving palm branches to honour Jesus as He rides by. Their "Hosanna!" shouts resonate deeply, more than just a warm greeting; they carry the weight of a community longing for salvation. "Hosanna" translates to "Save us, we pray," embodying a heartfelt plea for help and hope. It's a moment that reminds us of the profound connection between faith and the deep desire for redemption.

This humble entrance, riding on a donkey, signified peace and humility, fulfilling the prophecy of Zechariah 9:9.

Rejoice greatly, Daughter Zion!
Shout, Daughter Jerusalem!
See, your king comes to you,
righteous and victorious,
lowly and riding on a donkey,
on a colt, the foal of a donkey.

Jesus didn’t arrive in Jerusalem as a military conqueror but as a humble Saviour, bringing the promise of peace and salvation with Him. When He chose to ride in on a simple donkey, He showcased a unique kind of kingship that stands apart from all the typical displays of power. Rather than coming to dominate, He offers everyone love, grace, and a path to redemption.

This is the kind of King we are invited to embrace—not someone who wants to control us, but someone who willingly gave His life for our sake. As we think about this moment, we’re challenged to honour Jesus as our true King, not just with our words but through our actions. Are there parts of your life where you could better reflect His leadership and love?

His entry into Jerusalem is more than just a story from the past; it reminds us to recognise and celebrate Him as the King and Saviour. Let’s open our hearts, acknowledge His greatness, and prepare to joyfully celebrate His victory over sin and death with a sense of reverence and wonder.

1. Open Your Heart in Prayer: Take a quiet moment to invite Jesus into your life as your King. Think about what’s been weighing on you—those doubts, fears, or places where you’ve hesitated to let Him take the lead. Just surrender those thoughts to Him and feel the relief of trusting His authority.
2. Honouring Jesus in Daily Life: Remember how the crowd welcomed Jesus with palm branches and cloaks? It’s a beautiful image. Now, consider how you can honour Him in your everyday life. Look at your actions, relationships, and even how you think. Ask yourself: How can I show my respect and obedience to Jesus in all I do? Let these reflections guide you in making small changes that reflect your love for Him.
