7 Days to Discovering the Gift of YouSample

Cast Your Cares on Him
Have you ever felt bullied by your feelings? Have you held onto a negative emotion in such a way that it has kept you from embracing the gift of you? Negative emotions can take us so low that we struggle to find our way out. So, what’s a girl to do?
First Peter 5:7 tells us to cast all our worries and cares on God because He cares for us. The word “cast” in this verse comes from the Greek word epiripto, a compound of the words epi (meaning on top of ) and ripto (meaning to hurl or violently throw). God doesn’t just tell us to trust Him with our worries. No, ma’am. He says violently throw them off of our own shoulders and onto Him.
When we live as if who we are is wrong, mistreated, and undervalued, that becomes our identity. So we start to give control to the very one who wronged us by living in a way that makes us puff our chests out, thinking, “They won’t get one over on me! I have a right to be upset.” But when we do this, we only hurt ourselves. We end up stuck in a mindset that traps us into believing (1) we are not valued, and (2) we have the right to allow hate to consume our hearts. But don’t you think it’s time to experience true freedom?
Cast your cares! Write down the recent occasions when your feelings took you out. Offer them to God and listen. Write down what you hear.
Loving God, I do believe that You care for me. Today I am giving You my cares and concerns—I’m hurling them on You!—and I trust that You are receiving them. Amen.
